About this title

When messages in Korean and Japanese are left at the scenes of murders committed one after another in Tokyo and Korea, a Korean detective and a Japanese detective team up to track a serial killer who strikes again and again across borders in this Netflix series, based on the Korea–Japan co-produced comic of the same name.

The series is scheduled for release on Netflix on Friday, November 20, 2026. The title’s Netflix Korea page rates it 19+ (not for viewers under 19) and classifies its genre as thriller. Netflix announced the production and cast in September 2025 under the working title Road, and announced the release date on October 2, 2026. Ahead of its release, it was invited to the On Screen section of the 31st Busan International Film Festival, where episodes 1–3 had their first screening, followed by audience Q&As and an open talk. Its Japanese title is Purungiru: Ao no Michi (プルンギル -青の道-), and its English title is The Blue Road.

The series is directed by Han Jun-hee, who wrote and directed the Netflix series D.P. and the film Coin Locker Girl and served as creator of the Weak Hero Class series. The adaptation was written by Cho Eu-gene, writer of the film Pilot, together with Han Jun-hee. Netflix identified the source material as the comic 푸른 길 (Pureun Gil), and its English-language announcement referred to it as the webcomic “Blue Road.”

Son Suk-ku plays Kim Seok, a detective with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Mobile Investigation Unit, and Eita Nagayama plays Inose, a detective with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigation Division. Kim Shin-rock plays Ri Yun-ok, a Zainichi Korean businesswoman based in Japan; Choi Sung-eun plays a government agent who digs into the case from a different position than the two detectives; and Jung Jae-young plays a mysterious man of unknown identity. Son Suk-ku has appeared in Netflix’s A Killer Paradox and the D.P. series; Eita Nagayama in the films Monster and Memories of Matsuko and the dramas Nodame Cantabile and Saiko no Rikon (The Best Divorce); Kim Shin-rock in Netflix’s Hellbound; Choi Sung-eun in the Netflix film My Name Is Loh Kiwan; and Jung Jae-young in the film Noryang: Deadly Sea, among other works. According to Netflix’s English-language announcement, the story moves between Korea, Japan and Hong Kong. The teaser trailer released on October 23 opens with Kim Seok hearing news of a murder in Shinjuku amid a crowd and Inose heading to the crime scene, and Kim Seok says that a similar murder recently took place in Korea as well. The two teaser posters released alongside it carry the lines “He’s shown up again” for Kim Seok and “I’m going to catch the killer too” for Inose.

In the series, the two actors switch between Korean and Japanese. At the open talk in Busan, Eita Nagayama said that he rehearsed with Son Suk-ku and an interpreter, working through whether each line should be spoken in Japanese or Korean.
