Editors Β· 2026-10-11

In the fourth quarter of 2024, film versions of TV dramas and manga adaptations drove the Japanese live-action box office. In October and November, the two parts of Shinji Muroi, a spin-off of Bayside Shakedown, opened a month apart, and December brought the manga adaptation Cells at Work! and the drama film versions Grande Maison Paris and Doctor-X the Movie, which kept drawing audiences into the new year. Michihito Fujii's Faceless, released in November, received Awards of Excellence in 12 categories, the most of any film, at the following year's Japan Academy Film Prize.

Box office figures are as tallied by the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan. For October and November releases, they are 2024-tally figures as of the end of January 2025; for December releases, under the association's rules, they are 2025-tally figures as of the end of January 2026. Netflix rankings come from Netflix's official weekly Top 10.
